Introduction of Deuteronomy
Deuteronomy means “second law” in Greek, as it presents Moses’ final restatement of God’s covenant. Delivered in the 13th century BC on the plains of Moab just before Israel entered the Promised Land, the book is traditionally attributed to Moses. It centers on Moses himself as he addresses the new generation that did not witness the Exodus. Through powerful speeches, blessings, curses, and calls to loyalty, Moses urges them to choose life and faithfulness. The stakes could not be higher: will this generation finally embrace the covenant their parents failed to keep?
